Google Earth Placemark

Pointasia.com - August 31, 2006
Pongthai writes: Not sure you have posted this item onto 2bangkok: check this out www.pointasia.com. It’s a google earth-like application developed by Thais. More detailed satellite image than in Google earth for Thailand.

* Jamie points out that Google Earth is not the same as Google Maps. Google Earth has higher resolution data of Bangkok that does not appear on Google Maps yet--including sensitive areas downtown.
* Looking at the overall maps of Thailand, only the brown maps are zoomable. Remember, to save a link to an image, copy the link info from "Link to this page" on the right side.
*
MSN, spurred on by Google Maps, now has its own map utility, MSN Earth. However, there is no close-up imagery of the Bangkok area yet.

Thai military upset by Google satellite pictures - Reuters, September 6, 2005
Thailand, afraid that detailed satellite pictures available on the Internet threaten its national security, may ask Google Inc. to block images of important government buildings vulnerable to attack...

* Email us your links or post them on the forum and 2Bangkok.com will collect all the notable image links on this page.

The earth from space - September 27, 2005
Stuart McDonald: I came across this story on the Register today and thought it may be of personal interest given the google map stuff you've run on the site previously -- while not asia focussed, it is google maps of military installations (including nuke silos!) across US and Europe. (There are four pages of photos including the plane graveyard.)
Dave Milam adds: Check out www.cactuswings.com for info on the plane graveyards.
